Second Week Summary: Goodbyes

The second week was quite hectic, but looking back on it, i'm glad i didn't miss a day. Not that i was planning to.
Anyways, the second day of the second week was the most unusual of all the days so far. The girls had suddenly become angry supercharged, sugarized devils bent on disrupting the class in any way possible. OK not that bad, but they were running around on a perpetual sugar rush. I discussed some time during class to Sarah about their crack habits, but our results were inconclusive. Meanwhile Brian was on the side behaving his normal good self, and crashing through his work like the juggernaut.
After the word of the day, where we were already beginning to see signs of hyperactive behavior, we moved on to the bible story, where it seemed Olivia was talking to brian, while Sarah and Everson (the replacement teacher for Joe) reminded the kids every other second to pay attention.
Finally, after a grueling bible story with Brian answering most of the question and even then, beginning to drift off, we had a relieving snack break. During the snack break, i perfected the art of opening a soda can with just one hand, in the air, and showed the others, to their utter amazement. Ok they weren't that amazed, and i only got a dull "wow" from Sarah while the other ignored me altogether. Calvin continued to film on the side, almost unnoticed, when we went into our next activity, a game called spoken word. Everson took over, and from that point on, commanded the kids' attention. the game was something the two girl's could expend large amounts of energy on, while Brian could also use an ample amount of his brain power.
Basically, spoken word is a game where you write a sentence or two and then make motions for the whole thing. The girls had a lot of fun with Everson while i had even more fun with Brian, as we started making several different funny sentences usually involving the killing of zombies or vampires, or zombie vampires.
At the end, they decided to all made a joint spoken word and then all four kids performed it. It was something about a magical princess riding a bicycle to a magical meadow. Brian wasn't exactly thrilled.

The next day, the third day, was interesting, because Brian chose not to come. Yes, he chose not to. Sarah later spotted him in a nearby park, walking happily with his parents and some other people. Happier than the day before! Even with my charge gone, Calvin asked me to still participate just to see how things developed. So i did, and it was quite fun, as after the word of the day and a bible story, we had snack time in which we had the normal snacks plus cupcakes! Why? Because it was Paulina's birthday! In the excitement, Kimberly became supercharged, and something possessed her to attack everson, and Calvin was absent, so i picked up the camera and filmed what i could. finally the class was called to order, and we proceeded to do hot potato art to channel the kids' energy. But halfway through the game, Paulina had to go, as she had a birthday party to get to i think, and so we continued the hot potato art without her. I unknowingly turned her beautiful girl into mystique, since all i had was blue, and the rest of the page was pretty much colored in. Everyone had a lot of fun, and we quickly moved to spoken word once again, since it seemed that only games could channel the kids' energy.
The two remaining girls did that for a while, until Erika's parents came to take her away. It was a letdown, and all of a sudden we had 4 teachers and 1 student. so Olivia, Sarah, and I basically stood to the side while Everson continued playing spoken word with Kimberly.
Once again i got to have a chat with Sarah as we laughed at Everson when Kimberly chose to become aggressive. finally, it was 6:00, and we quickly worked on our cheer before heading down. However, when we performed it, we were quite surprised when Everson and I were doing our robot dance at the end of the cheer when Kimberly jumped up and started dancing like a drunken monkey. Purely for dramatic effect right?
After the everyone was dissmissed, I once again reminisced of playing basketball after illuminate as i had done the year before with dance group. The girl's in creative writing were just not old enough or sporty enough, and I don't Brian would play even if he was there. But then i remembered that even the dance kids went directly home for some reason, and decided that it was not my placement in Creative writing that had caused this change. Some other thing noone could control. Maybe.

It turned out that that day was basically my last day with them, as Calvin had to fill in for Maceo on Thursday and kind of just floated around on friday. Thursday and Friday i find hard to recall, as i spent most of the time looking through the camera's eyes, almost like an alien observer. I do recall that on Thursday, Erika didn't come, but Paulina and Kimberly did. We all played fruit basket at the end, mostly because of Kimberly's endless requests to play a game. Also, Paulina seemed much less interested in bible stories, and so Olivia and Sarah taught about the morals depicted in the bible stories instead. It would have to do.

Friday I almost didn't go, though i decided i should since i had not said proper goodbyes to all my friends, both teachers and students, and so i tagged along, filming the whole day. that day, Erika returned, but told Sarah and Olivia that she wouldn't be coming for the final performance. Since all they were really doing that day was preparing for the final performance, Erika just kind of shadowed Kimberly, since Kimberly was given the easiest parts due to her age. The format of the final performance was like this:

Paulina reads a short story, then the spoken word piece, while Kimberly acts it out. Everson and Sarah basically coached Kimberly on what actions to do, while Olivia helped Paulina edit her short story. All the while I was observing through the extremely subtle eye of the camera. I was totally invisible, even when knocking chairs over while panning a shot. We had several laughs, and during snack time, Calvin assigned me to cover publishing for a little, but after finding that the subject he wanted me to film, Mike's dad, wasn't there, he reassigned me back to creative writing. By that time, there wasn't much time left, so i dropped the camera to practice the cheer with them, then went down to perform it. Once again Kimberly did her dancing monkey thing, but this time I wasn't surprised as much, so I did not break routine.
After dismissal, I went to the dinner to say goodbye to everyone, which I did, though many people tried to convince me to come to the closing ceremony on Saturday, only to fail. I talked a bit with Eileen and Mike about their upcoming trip to China, saying they could stay at our place. They said they would consider, so I went off to say goodbye to the others. And with my final goodbyes to my good friends the larazabels, I took off with Calvin in his hybrid car without a sound.
